Tourist Spots in Eastern Samar
1. Minasangay Marine Eco-Park
Minasangay Marine Eco-Park is one of the rising tourist spots in Eastern Samar. Both locals and foreign visitors love coming here to experience its lush forests, coconut plantations, mangrove forests, and rock formations on the beach.

2. Ando Island
Ando Island is a tropical island featuring beautiful palm-fringed beaches and stunning rock formations. Along the beach, you’ll find numerous natural tidal pools with crystal-clear waters. Some are deep and the surrounding cliffs provide a good jumping platform. The seas surrounding the island thrives with a myriad of marine species including coral reefs. Snorkeling and scuba diving are some of the favorite activities here. Nearby is another enchanted site called the Sangat Cave where unseen beings are said to dwell.

3. Makati Island
Makati Island boasts of white beaches and crystal-clear waters. Coconut trees line the beach. Just like many islands in Eastern Samar, Makati Island is less touristy, thus, fit for those wanting to experience a rustic respite.

4. Canjuway Nature Park
Canjuway Nature Park is an idyllic escape for nature lovers and soul seekers. Tucked in a remote site, the park makes you feel like you are in times standing still. Imagine sitting on one of the numerous rock formations while gazing at the crashing waves and the endless ocean. That is how it’s like here.

5. Calicoan Island & Beach
Also called ABCD Beach, Calicoan Island and Beach is one of the most frequented tourist spots in Eastern Samar. The beach lies on the Pacific Ocean which enables bigger waves. That makes the island one of the best surfing sites in the Philippines. Enjoy basking on the sandy part of the beach or you could try jumping/diving from one of the cliffs towards a deeper part of the sea.

6. Homonhon Island
Homonhon Island is one of the recognized historical tourist spots in Eastern Samar. This is the first island which Ferdinand Magellan reached on March 16, 1521 on his mission to circumnavigate the world. But more than that, the Homonhon Island is also an ecological paradise with white sand beaches extending for miles.

7. Apiton Island
Apiton Island is one of the promising tourist spots in Eastern Samar. Here, you’ll find breathtaking blue lagoons, tidal pools, and stunning rock formations. Some of the rock formations are several meters high. Try jumping or diving from one of these towards deep pools. Just make sure you know how to swim. If you have time, avail of a guide and explore the dense forests.

8. Divinubo Island
Divinubo Island is a promising ecotourism destination with its pristine white beaches, lush forests, and beautiful rock formations. Take a boat around the island and you’ll find numerous sea caves, tidal pools, and lagoons. Atop a hill, you’ll find a lighthouse overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean.

9. Linao Cave
Linao Cave is one of the least known tourist spots in Eastern Samar. However, it is a potential destination that could bring the local town into the ecotourism limelight. If you’ve heard of the famous Enchanted River in Surigao, then you’ve got a similar picture of Linao Cave. It lies deep in the jungle, giving it a surreal view. The waters of Linao Cave are also crystal clear and bluish.

10. Ban-awan Falls
Ban-awan Falls is one of the remotest tourist spots in Eastern Samar. But both locals and tourists keep coming here because of its majestic view, being the highest falls in the entire province. It cascades on a massive cliff surrounded with green forests. Expect to trail on jungles and cross brooks before reaching the waterfall.

11. Balangiga Church
Balangiga Church is also one of the recognized historical tourist spots in Eastern Samar, being the site of the famous Balangiga Bells. During the American regime, the US army took the bells, only to return them decades after. The church is also known as San Lorenzo de Martir Parish Church.

12. Amandraga Falls
Amandraga Falls is just 30 minutes of trek from Ban-awan Falls. Its raging waters carved a very wide and deep pool. You can jump or dive from one of the surrounding cliff/rocks. Because of the powerful force of the waterfall, the local authorities tapped it for hydro-electric power.

13. Saint Anthony of Padua Church
Saint Anthony of Padua Church is one of the most frequented religious tourist spots in Eastern Samar. Also called Sulangan Church, it is a favorite pilgrimage site as many miracles have been attributed to the patron saint.

14. Immaculate Concepcion Parish Church
Immaculate Concepcion Parish Church is one of the oldest churches in Samar, dating back to the Spanish times.

15. Canhugas Nature Park
Canhugas Nature Park is where you’ll find giant waves crashing on giant rock formations. These rock formations resemble various shapes. One could just wonder how the crashing waves molded such landscape. There are also natural swimming pools in between the rock formations. Here, you’ll catch sight of different marine species. Make sure not to harm them.

16. Kantican Island/Pearl Island
Pearl Island, also called Kantican Island, is one of the most popular tourist spots in Eastern Samar. It’s not as big as you think but what makes it special is that the surrounding seas are pearl farms. Aside from pearls, the seas also thrive with giant clams, lobsters, abalones, and different fish and coral species.

17. Buyayawon Bridge
Buyayawon Bridge offers a view of turquoise blue waters of a river and the nearby sea. From here, you can also catch sight of vast mangrove forests.

18. Ginduyanan Cove
Ginduyanan Cove is another must-see tourist spot in Eastern Samar. Here, you’ll find a giant rock formation overlooking the vast ocean. Crashing waves give the place a refreshing view.

- Trekking Time: 30 minutes
19. Higunom Island
Higunom Island faces the Pacific Ocean and is one of the emerging tourist spots in Eastern Samar. It boasts of white sands, turquoise waters and a warm summer breeze. This is a perfect getaway for travelers who ought for less touristy destinations. For an introvert like me, there’s just nothing like it lying on the beach while gazing on the surrounding views. There are now cottages and basic amenities.

- Environmental Fee: Php 20
- Boat Time and Fare: one hour & Php 100 per person for 15 pax
How to Get to Eastern Samar
The province has two airports namely, Guiuan Airport and Borongan Airport. Currently, no airline operates out of the Borongan Airport in Borongan City while upstart Mid-Sea Express began serving the Guiuan Airport in Guiuan town. Mid-Sea Express plies Cebu-Guiuan route to serve tourists going to Calicoan Island.
If you’re travelling by land, ride minibuses and vans plying from the regional center in Tacloban City to the different municipalities in Eastern Samar. From Borongan City, buses ply to Manila. Motorized boats ply through the Leyte Gulf ferrying passengers going to the Tacloban City seaport.
