Start of the trail to Kabigan Falls

Kabigan Falls is located in Barangay Balaoi, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. The waterfall is nestled deep in the forest, approximately 1.5 kilometers away from the nearest road. To get to the falls, visitors need to trek through a scenic trail that passes through the verdant forest and crosses a river and irrigation canal multiple times.

The trek to Kabigan Falls takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on one’s pace and level of stamina. The trail is relatively easy, but visitors should wear appropriate footwear and bring enough water and snacks for the journey. Visitors can also hire a guide to assist them during the trek, especially for those who are not familiar with the area.

The trail to the waterfall is well-maintained and I was told it used to be a logging road in the 1960s. Thanks to ecotourism, the locals are now trained to protect the forest.

So for us, it was a leisure walk, trailing alongside towering trees and lush vegetation. We even chanced on a giant flower and various colorful birds. Thanks to the shading of tall trees, we were protected from the simmering midday heat. Ah, nature truly caresses.

Our guide also told us that deer and wild pigs roam the remoter part of the area.

Of course. I could not help but immediately jumped into the pool and boy, I was so relieved! It felt like nature was embracing me and casting away my worries and fears.

Now why is it called Kabigan Falls?

Kabigan literally translates to a friend. The locals named it as such because the waterfall is a friend to a connecting river downstream.
